📍 Arrest During Border Tensions
An Indian BSF officer, Pranam Sao, was captured by Pakistan on April 23 during rising tensions between the two countries. He was allegedly helping farmers evacuate near the border in Ferozepur, Punjab, when he crossed into Pakistani territory and was detained.
Pakistani authorities later released a photo showing him blindfolded, confirming his arrest. This incident occurred just before India’s Operation Sindoor (May 7) and Pakistan’s Operation Banyan Marsus (May 10).
🏠 Family in Distress
Pranam’s wife, Rajani Sao, who is seven months pregnant, has been anxiously waiting for news. Speaking to the media, she said:
“My husband was arrested. I saw a photo of him blindfolded. Since the war talk began, I don’t know what the next news will be.”
Rajani broke down as she begged the government to return her sindoor—a traditional symbol of marriage in Hindu culture.
The couple last spoke on April 22, just one day before his arrest.
👪 Community and Family in Support
The officer’s family, based in Reshra, Hooghly district of West Bengal, has received strong support from the local community. Neighbors and well-wishers have been visiting the home regularly, while TV screens in the house run non-stop news updates.
Pranam’s father, Bhola Sao, said:
“He served the nation for 18 years. Now we are left helpless.”
His mother echoed similar sentiments, expressing heartbreak and confusion over the government’s silence.
🙏 Calls for Government Action
Pranam’s brother, Sham Sundar Sao, voiced frustration over the lack of updates.
“One side chants slogans of war, the other side prays for peace.”
The family says Operation Sindoor will only be celebrated if Pranam returns home safely.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has urged the Home Ministry to resolve the matter swiftly. Local MP Kalyan Banerjee confirmed he’s been in contact with BSF commanders.
